Zero Waste: A Role-Play Simulation game

EXPLORE | 2.5 hours | Understanding complex realities of building an inclusive and sustainable plan

Workshop details

Zero Waste is an immersive role-play simulation designed to challenge participants to address the complex realities of building inclusive and sustainable waste management systems, a crucial step toward climate action in India. Players will engage in high-stakes negotiations, weighing factors such as funding, land availability, informal sector inclusion, and emissions reduction. At the center of these discussions lies the critical decision of selecting the appropriate infrastructure for waste processing and disposal. A digital tool allows participants to visualise the real-time consequences of their decisions, illustrating how each choice impacts the city's waste management and the interests of its stakeholders. // Game Objectives: Navigate the intricacies of developing a city’s solid waste management plan, where diverse stakeholder perspectives compete. This emphasises the importance of ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process. 1) Understand the far-reaching impacts of these choices, including the creation of green jobs, contributions to emissions reduction, and generating revenue from waste outputs. 2) Deliberate key trade-offs, such as short-term vs. long-term goals, decentralised vs. centralised systems, and optimising efficiency vs. promoting job growth. 3) To set the stage, a context-setting session will introduce participants to the urban waste landscape. This could be a 60-minute masterclass or a 2-hour site visit in Bengaluru. // Game Details: Total Duration: 2.5 - 4 hours Participants: 9 - 30 (multiples of 9 or 10 work best due to the game’s design)
